Skills for Success Conference
A skills-based business conference has been giving Ashby School students a headstart in their careers for more than 20 years.
Each July, students are invited to swap the school day for office hours to take part in three days of intensive business training at the Skills for Management conference.
Coached by local business people, students take on a range of real life workplace challenges, which have been devised by professionals and are commonly used in commerce and industry.
Students are also asked to devise their own products and advertising campaigns. During the conference, they hone management skills such as communication, team working, time-keeping and decision-making.
Margaret Hawksworth, Director of Post-16 education, said: "The conference helps students to develop effective management and people skills which are relevant to a range of careers at all levels.
“The skills these students learn will enable them to stand out from the rest at interview and in the workplace.
"The fact that the course has been running for 20 years shows how successful it is and how highly valued it is by the employers and industrialists who take part."
Students must dress in formal business wear for the three-day course.
