Sixth Form

Ashby School has one of the largest and most successful Sixth Forms in Leicestershire. Rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted, the Sixth Form currently has more than 600 students on roll.

The majority of Sixth Formers are students who stay on at the school following their Year 11 studies. However, a growing number of students join each year from other schools, both inside and outside the county.

To join the Sixth Form, students must obtain five GCSEs at grades A* to C, including English (not English Literature) and Mathematics. The five passes must be in at least four different subjects.

In recent years, Ashby A level students have featured consistently among the county's highest achievers. In 2009, the overall pass rate at A level reached 97.3 per cent with 43.6 per cent of all passes at top grades A and B.

Results like these allow the school to retain its proud tradition of excellence and high achievement at post-16 level.

Students leaving the school can choose from a range of careers and educational options. The majority choose to enrol on Higher Education degree courses, or opt for careers with further training.

Ashby School ensures that all students move on successfully, whatever their chosen direction.

Courses on Offer

Ashby School specialises in the delivery of Level 3 qualifications. The range of subjects on offer is updated annually on this website and at Lecap (Leicestershire Common Application Process)'s website. Lecap can be accessed by clicking here.

There are also numerous opportunities for students to become involved in activities outside the classroom. These include charity fundraising, sports, House activities, the School Council, working with local primary school children, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

The Sixth Form Pastoral Team is available to support, advise, monitor, and generally ensure students succeed and thrive during their time in the Sixth Form.

Why is Ashby Sixth Form so successful?

  • Teaching and learning is student-focused and of a very high standard. As a result of this and many other strengths, Ofsted inspectors rated the Sixth Form as 'outstanding'.
  • Sixth Formers have a new, purpose-built Sixth Form Centre, with its own careers library, bistro-style dining area and WiFi facility.
  • Students participate in an extensive range of enrichment activities and have daily opportunities to contribute to the whole school and wider community.

Sixth Form Entry 2010

If you are considering joining Ashby Sixth Form in 2010 and are at a Leicestershire School, you need to apply through the Connexions LeCap process.

Students from outside of Leicestershire should use the on-line External Application Form. It should be noted that this form is not an application for the Boarding House.

Anyone wishing to apply to School House to be considered as a Boarder must submit a separate letter of application addressed to Mr J Williams, Director of Boarding, at School House.

The Sixth Form starts accepting applications from November 2010 until March 2011. A special 'Into the Sixth Form' evening, to give prospective students and their families an insight into Sixth Form life, is usually held in December.
