Governors' Information

School Governors take an overview of, and make important decisions about, the direction of the School.

The governing body has a range of responsibilities. These include setting the school’s aims and policies, enabling the school to achieve high educational standards, deciding on the best use of the school's finances, improving the school environment, and making sure that every pupil has access to all educational opportunities.

At Ashby School, Governors influence the vision and ethos of the school through their role in various committees. These committees deal with issues relating to Finance, Curriculum, Health and Safety, Personnel, School House (the school's boarding facility), and the school's Specialist Schools status.

Decisions made at these committee meetings – and at a termly meeting attended by all Governors - set the strategic direction of the school. Together with the Headteacher, Governors monitor the impact of school plans and policies and decide how school resources can best be used.

Anyone interested in becoming a Governor, or in finding out more about the work of the governing body, should contact Andrew Burton, Clerk to the Governors, at Ashby School during school hours.

Reporting to Parents

Governors at Ashby School keep parents informed of the latest news and developments by producing a termly report for the school's Ashbeian newsletter.

Although schools are no longer required by law to produce a governors' report for parents, Ashby Governors believe in keeping parents updated regularly. To help achieve this, The Ashbeian has replaced the Governors' Report as a way of keeping parents in touch with the school's news and successes.

Governors' committee updates – as featured in The Ashbeian - can be accessed below.

Governors' Reports to Parents

Historically, Governors have had to produce an annual report for parents. The legal requirement for this document stopped in 2005. To view previous Governors' reports please click here. Since 2005 it has been a requirement for similar information to be filed with DfES electronically - and Ashby School has continued to highlight achievements across the school through the termly Ashbeian newsletter.

Governors' Visits

Governors are encouraged to visit the school on a regular basis. Following each visit, a brief report should be submitted to the Clerk to Governors for inclusion in the next full Governors meeting.

The document listed below, gives information about how to organise such a visit, and an example format for the written report.
