Wat-er Way to Raise Money
09 Mar 2010
Fitness fanatics and feisty fundraisers will be pushing themselves to the limit in Ashby School’s fourth annual aquathon on Tuesday (16 March).
More than 100 staff and students - of all sporting abilities – have signed up to tackle the course, which includes a 400 metre swim and a three kilometre run.
Emma-Louise Sudworth (left) and Jess Woolerton completed the course in flippers, arm bands and life jackets.
Entrants will include two teams of three-legged racers.
Competitors can take part individually or in pairs.
Competitors first did a 400 metre swim.
Last year’s event helped to raise more than £1,000 for the school’s six House charities.
Some entrants ran the aquathon as a three-legged event.
PE teacher Vikki Rundle-Brown said: “The great thing about the aquathon is that it is open to absolutely everyone in school, whatever their sporting ability.
The effects of the aquathon take their toll on one competitor.
“For some, it is a real test of their stamina and sporting performance. For others, it is more like a fun run. But, for everyone, it is about raising money for some very worthy charities.”
