Year 11s Practise Exam Technique in 'Walk and Talk' Mock
24 Jan 2018
Year 11 students have been preparing already for their summer exams by sitting a 'walk and talk' mock exam.
In all, 180 students sat the 1 hour 45 minute English literature paper during two sessions in December. A teacher sat the paper at the same time, projecting his answers up on to two large screens at the front of the room to guide and prompt students.
Head of English Rowenna Wallis explained: "Throughout the exam, the students can see what the teacher does. So we read through the question and highlight key words and the students follow and then read the sources and talk through good quotes, make a few annotations etc
"When the students write their answers, the teacher does the same - just a few sentence starts, for instance, to help students begin their own paragraphs. Afterwards we marked the papers which gave them a real boost. The 'walk and talk' mock is a useful exercise for getting students used to timings and the exam environment. The whole process works really well and last year added two grades to the achievement of some students."
