This is a tremendous opportunity to study a fascinating subject in a faculty that has enjoyed terrific results for over ten years. But students should not believe they have chosen an easy option and that a good grade is a formality – this is far from the truth.
This subject provides the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes to enter higher education or employment in sport and active leisure. The units cover a wide scope of interests, this allows everyone to find an area of strength. It also means that students will find some areas more demanding. Performance is assessed through coursework within controlled conditions and with an external examination. Students must therefore be prepared to put in a good deal of their own time to improve their understanding through re-reading class notes and completing all homework set.
In the second year, students will study three units:
Unit 3 - Sports organisation and development
Unit 5 - Performance analysis in sport and exercise
Unit 8 - Organisation of sports events
Unit 3 will be assessed via a 60-minute external exam. Units 5 and 8 will be assessed through coursework.
