Music - Year 10 and 11

Year 10 GCSE Music
Introduction to the GCSE Music course. The introductory project builds on music theory and understanding alongside develop the skills in using the music software Sibelius.
Students will also complete a solo performance in the week of 12 September 2017.
During the second half term, students will explore the topic of 'Film Music' developing analytical skills of the set work 'Star Wars' as well as performing music from this genre as a class and developing their own composition in this genre.
Year 11 GCSE Music
Students will initially study the music of Queen through the song Killer Queen. The next project they will explore romantic piano music through the study of a Beethoven Sonata. Alongside this, students will develop their own composition using extended chords and harmony. Students will be assessed on both elements of this by the end of the first half term.
Students will also complete a solo performance.
During the second half of the term, students will work on their Composition 1 coursework - Deadline is 24 November 2017
Alongside this, students will study set works which include Bach and Spalding
