Activities & Local Amenities
Boarders enjoy a full range of educational, cultural and sporting programmes through the school and School House.
Music and drama are extremely popular choices which provide the opportunity to take part in several concerts and performances throughout the year. The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is available to students, along with a wide range of residential and cultural experiences.
Sporting and recreational facilities are available, including a weights room, gymnasium, a large sports hall and floodlit, all-weather courts, all within easy walking distance of the boarding residence. There is an excellent heated indoor swimming pool and sporting opportunities include water polo. Additional sports are available to boarders such as rugby, volleyball, badminton and others. Boarders are also often able to take advantage of professional coaching, particularly in football.
A programme of cultural and social activities runs throughout the year. Many of these festivities reflect the cultural and international diversity of the house and offer an opportunity to mix traditional English festivals with the traditions of boarders from further afield.
Activities also include theatre and cinema trips, ice skating, bowling, rugby and football matches, camping or simply rambles around the surrounding countryside. Each term also brings excursions to places of interest and culture or places of fun.
The local area provides the security of a small and ancient market town, with good shops and amenities which boys can access after school and at weekends. There is a local leisure centre which offers additional recreational facilities.
