Boarding Admission & Fees
“At my last school I was underachieving....now I am consistently achieving A* in my examinations and am well on target to gain a Sixth Form place” - Year 11 Student
Choosing a boarding place at School House offers boys flexibility in their education. Places are available in all Year groups from Year 7 to Year 13. However, some year groups have limited numbers and so early application is recommended.
Boys can also decide how long they wish to board. Some students from overseas are interested in improving their English language skills and experiencing a different culture and therefore may decide to board for one year only. Other students wish to board for an extended period of time, for anything from two to seven years. In that time, they will have completed GCSEs and/or A levels and leave well prepared for university life and the challenges of life beyond education.
Admission to School House is by interview not entrance examination*. The most important criteria for selection are a willingness to live happily and effectively in a society of boys and a wish to contribute hard work and enthusiasm to the school and School House. There are no open days for boarding applicants as great care is taken to interview all students individually and ensure all boys who choose to come to School House will thrive in this environment. There are occasions where students from overseas are unable to attend an interview and on these occasions we are happy to consider either telephone or Skype interviews.
School House is also among the most affordable boarding schools in England since parents are only paying for the cost of accommodation and not the cost of tuition.
Parents and prospective boarders are positively encouraged to contact the Director of Boarding for further details. There are various helpful publications, which include the main Ashby School Prospectus, the Sixth Form Prospectus, the School House Boarding Residence Prospectus and a DVD, all assisting to provide a very full understanding of boarding at Ashby School.
