Boarding At Sixth Form
“Choosing School House and Ashby School turned out to be one of the best things that has ever happened to me.” - Sixth Form Boarder
Modern, purpose-built Sixth Form accommodation provides senior boys with well-equipped single and twin en-suite study rooms. These have been designed to ensure older boys can enjoy the security and comfort provided by School House, while enjoying a lifestyle similar to university.
“What I love most about the house, is the homely atmosphere….You always have someone to help you when you have a problem … staff take a great interest in you as a person”- Sixth Form Boarder
In addition to these purpose-built study bedrooms, which have wifi access and advanced climate control, Sixth Form boarders also benefit from their own kitchen and lounge areas for making snacks. This helps boys to develop necessary skills for survival at university.
“We were promised facilities resembling quality University Halls of Residence, what we got feels more like a 5* hotel” – Year 13 boarder
There is a games room for boys to take a break from their studies. An additional computer room is also available for Sixth Form boys so that they can concentrate on their studies without interruption. It also incorporates Skype facilities.
At Sixth Form age, there is a fine balance between supporting a student and encouraging him to become more independent and self-reliant. This balance is met by members of staff supervising homework each evening for at least the first two to three terms of a boy’s A level study. Thereafter, if it is felt that students have the necessary study skills and are reliable and consistent in their studies, senior boys are allowed to complete their homework and projects in their own study bedrooms.
“At the boarding residence you get great help with your studies and you can also take extra subjects out of school if you really need them” - Head Boy
Sixth Form at Ashby School boasts a broad range of subjects, which are explained in the Ashby School Post-16 options booklet. There is a purpose-built Sixth Form centre at Ashby School, where students and staff can meet up to discuss work. There are numerous computers available to students, and the Sixth Form centre itself houses a computer suite to which senior students can go for quiet study.
“My local school simply couldn’t offer me the subject choices I wanted, so I chose to be a boarder at School House… I could not think of a better place to study” – Sixth Form Student
A level results are consistently high. The vast majority of Sixth Form students go on to study at university. Students receive regular advice and feedback on their academic progress, with regular predictions on final grades.
“My time at School House has changed my life, turning me into a responsible independent young man…. I will never forget the experiences and lessons it has taught me” – Deputy Head Boy
