Post-Sixth Form Information for Year 13 Parents
28 Sep 2018
As this important year progresses, we strive to provide all students with as many opportunities as possible to find the right path for them post Sixth Form. I would like to share the following information with you regarding some upcoming dates and opportunities.
For a number of students, this path will be applying for universities and, following the successful Post Sixth Form Preparation Day in Year 12,; this process should be well underway.
Although UCAS official deadlines may be different, I would like to draw your attention to the school’s deadlines for UCAS applications this academic year:
- Early applicants (medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science, Oxford or Cambridge) should submit their application by no later than the end of this week.
- Early Bird applicants (for those who would like to be amongst the first batch of applications that the school will prioritise to submit) should submit their application by no later than the end of Thursday 18th October to ensure these will be processed upon our return after half term.
- ALL remaining UCAS applications should submit their application by no later than the end of Monday 5 November.
Students have all been provided with resources to complete their application and write a personal statement but they are more than welcome to ask for further support and advice regarding this from a member of the Sixth Form Team. In addition, to further support our students there will be a refresher talk on ‘how to write a personal statement’ on Monday 1 October, 3.15-4.00pm in the Lecture Theatre.
Students have also been made aware that a free booklet to assist with starting to write the personal statement is available from the Sixth Form office. There will also be an assembly later this term regarding student finance and next term an information evening for parents. Details will follow in due course.
For those who are seeking employment or an apprenticeship after Sixth Form, students are advised that we have an external visitor coming to school on Friday 16 November from the LEBC (Leicestershire Education Business Group). The aim of this session (8.45am-10.05am) is to deliver a workshop on CV writing and apprenticeship opportunities. If students are interested in attending this session, please advise a member of the Sixth Form team.
On Monday 3 December, there will be an additional apprenticeship workshop, which will offer a full presentation on apprenticeships and what to expect followed by full guidance on how to build a profile, search for opportunities and apply for roles using the National Apprenticeship Service website. More information regarding this will be shared with students in due course.
If you have any queries regarding any of these opportunities, please contact the Sixth Form team.
