Year 10 Internal Examinations - Summer 2016
08 Jun 2016
8 June 2016
From 20 June until the 1 July, Year 10 students will be taking internal examinations which are set by their subject teachers. These will be GCSE type questions with the aim of familiarising students with the style of questioning and environment in preparation for their summer exams in 2017. Several of the exams will be in larger exam style rooms to give students a more realistic experience. When students are not taking an exam they will be in their normal timetabled lessons.
There will be no mock Science exam as students have already sat their Core Science exams in May. The students displayed an excellent attitude towards these exams with regard to their punctuality, organisation and equipment and we expect this to be the same with these internal examinations.
All year 10 students who study GCSE French will have a GCSE written Controlled Assessment examination on the 20 or 21 June. Their French teacher will give the exact date, time and location in lessons. For German students, this exam will take place on Friday 1st July. These exams are worth 15% of the final GCSE grade in each language.
BTEC subjects will not be examined during this period due to the nature of the course and its style of assessment.
We want our students to do as well as possible in these examinations as this is the first formal assessment undertaken in examination conditions in most subjects and these results may be used to adjust some setting arrangements at the start of the next academic year. The outcomes, when added to other assessments we have, will give both us and yourselves a clear picture of what the priorities should be for your child’s progress throughout Year 11. The results of the examinations will be fed back to students by their respective teachers before the end of the summer term and they will be available to parents via MCAS in September.
A blank two week timetable covering the timescale of the exam period will be issued to all students by their form tutors. The maths and English exams are shown on there already as all students will sit these exams at the same time. All students will also receive a copy of this via their form tutor and students will be expected to record all of their exams on it, which they can then use as a guide. It is crucial that students know precisely when all of their exams are and where they have to go for them.
May we also take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support during the last year. We are confident that with careful preparation and hard work this year group can achieve some excellent examination results.
