Ashby School prepares to welcome Year 7s for first time in 450 year history
30 Apr 2021
Next stop: Ashby School! Preparations are underway to welcome Year 7 students who will soon be able to join Ashby School straight from primary school for the first time.
The arrival of Year 7 students will mark a new chapter in the long history of Ashby School, which has been educating local youngsters since 1567. As part of its ‘age range change’ programme, Ashby School will start accepting applications this October for its first ever Year 7 intake. The students, who are currently in Year 5, will take up their places in August 2022.
Ashby’s expert staff are already prepared for the change and are urging parents to keep an eye on the school website for dates and details.
Ali Jackson, Director of Curriculum Teaching and Learning, said: “At Ashby School, we believe it’s a privilege to be chosen to educate your child. We’re excited that students will be able to begin their Ashby School journey in Year 7 for the first time – and to embrace the Ashby School ethos that anything is possible.
“We’ve already undertaken intensive work around Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 9) curriculum design. The majority of our staff have KS3 experience and we will continue to focus on the learning and teaching of younger students over the next year. This will ensure our Year 7 students benefit from the same high quality learning experience that all Ashby School students have come to expect.”
The school has a long-standing reputation for its strong core curriculum, good results, and excellent facilities, as well as for a robust pastoral system to supports students’ mental health and wellbeing.
Year 7 students will be based on the main Nottingham Road campus in bespoke and well-equipped classrooms, workshops and laboratories.
