Christmas Shoeboxes Spread Cheer
20 Nov 2020
Generous Sixth Formers have been filling shoeboxes with Christmas gifts for needy children, as part of a UK-wide festive appeal.
When Sixth Former Elle Sturgess suggested supporting The Samaritan's Purse 'Operation Christmas Child' appeal, she was amazed by the response from her fellow students.
Elle, who hopes to become a nurse after Sixth Form, said: "I was amazed at the amount of donations we received, which was enough to fill 23 shoeboxes! As a school, we usually do lots of fundraising for charity but we haven't been able to do as much because of Covid, so I thought it would be nice to do the shoebox appeal.
"As a family, we do a box every year but I'd never been in charge of organising it for a group before. It was great that so many people wanted to get involved."
Each box contained items such as stationery, colouring and activity books, toiletries, toys and teddy bears.
The boxes are sent to more than 100 countries all over the world to children between the ages of two and 14.
