Poppy Partnership Launched Following Industry Visit
13 Oct 2023
Engineering students marked National Manufacturing Day with a hands-on visit to Acres Engineering, whch included manufacturing Remembrance Day poppies.
Now the Melbourne-based company, which is run by former Ashby School student Luke Parker, has agreed to make and donate 122 poppies for the school's Remembrance garden - one for each of the former Ashby School students who've lost their lives in conflict.
Mr Parker said: "I attended Ashby School and I was stunned when I learned that 122 ex-students are remembered each year from my old school alone. We are ring fencing 122 of the initial run of poppies and donating them to Ashby School for its Remembrance garden.
"As a company, we're committed to supporting initiatives to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and the armed forces so this is a great partnership for us. It’s even better because Ashby is my old school."
Poppies can also be purchased at Acres Engineering's online shop with profits going to the Royal British Legion: https://shop.acres.engineering/collections/poppy/products/remembrance-poppies
Head of Design and Technology Ed Cooper said: "We're really grateful to Acres Engineering for agreeing to help us create a Remembrance Day poppy display deserving of our fallen students.
"This follows a really worthwhile visit to the Acres Engineering site for National Manufacturing Day where our students got the opportunity to see inside a working factory and gain a real insight into career possibilities. Experiences like this help our students to see that 'Anything is Possible'."
National Manufacturing Day is organised by Make UK.
