Field Trip Heads to the Coast

Geographers headed to Swanage to collect data from coastal and urban locations in preparation for the next stage of their A level course.
The Year 13 students could choose to focus on either coastal or urban areas, and used the field trip to collect the relevant data for the Non Examined Assessment (NEA) component of the course.
For some, this meant concentrating on geological changes, by collecting sand samples and investigating changes to the beach, while others explored urban issues, such as social inequality in Swange.
Zoe Hewlett, joint leader of geography, said: “It was wonderful to be able to finally get the students back down to Swanage and see them conducting their fieldwork for the NEA. Trips like this are crucial to allow students to get hands on experience of concepts they have only encountered in the classroom and to apply what they have learned in a real world situation.”
