A winning goal in extra time secured a semi final place for Ashby's KS4 girls' football team.
The dramatic quarter final match at home against Brockington College ended 3-2 and included some great individual battles against strong physical opponents.
The Ashby team, which is made up of Year 10 and 11 students, took an early lead after seven minutes when Laura B scored in the bottom left corner.
After 13 minutes of the second half, Brockington equalised before going ahead in the 17th minute.
Ashby remained unfazed and rose to the challenge. With four minutes of the second half to go, Eva B scored from a through ball that put her one on one with the keeper, taking the game to extra time.
Eva scored again in the first two minutes of extra time but Brockington retaliated with three shots, hitting the post twice. In the second half of extra time, Ashby switched to a more defensive system to protect their advantage and take the win.
Teacher Laura Wright said: "Well done to the team for a performance of real skill, nerve and resilience. And a special thank you to Mr Skervin for agreeing to take on refereeing duties at the last minute."
