Hockey Victory Puts Boys in Next Round of England Schools Competition
08 Mar 2019
The boys' hockey team has continued its impressive run with a resounding victory in the England Schools competition.
Ashby won 11 - 1 against William Brookes School, the only Coubertin school in the country and part of an international network of schools based on the ethos of Pierre de Courbetin, who is credited with founding the modern Olympic games.
Following their victory, Ashby's boys will progress to the next round of the Tier 2 Plate competition against King Edward's School, Birmingham.
Ashby School entered the competition earlier this year in Tier 1 - the highest level - beating Loughborough Grammar School in their first game and facing Repton in the second round.
Ashby's defeat by an extremely strong Repton side knocked them out of the Tier 1 contest but means they still have a chance to distinguish themselves against some good teams in Tier 2.
Earlier this year, the boys were highly commended in the Team of the Year category at the North West Leicestershire Sports Awards (pictured above).
