Mathematicians Head for National Final
28 Nov 2018
A team of maths students from Ashby School has reached the national final of the Senior Team Maths Challenge.
Rebecca Coward and Beth Bakewell-Smith, who are in Year 13, and Kate Pruden and Luke Hanley, from Year 12, fended off competition from teams from across the region.
The Senior Maths Challenge tests mathematical, communication and teamwork skills.
The four winning students will now take part in the National Final in London in February where they will be up against other heat winners from around the country.
In the final, teams split off into pairs, taking it in turns to solve problems in these pairs. This round involves lots of movement as well as mathematics: it is a race against the clock with lots of lively activity.
Maths teacher Alex Weston said: "Our students put in an extremely strong performance and were unfazed by the very high standard of mathematics in the competition. They were worthy winners and I am really looking forward to seeing what they can do in the final."
