Sports Leaders are Rugby Refs for a Day
12 Nov 2019
Year 10 sports leaders have been putting their sporting and team work skills to the test by refereeing an all day tag rugby tournament for Year 5 and 6 pupils at Ashby Rugby Club.
The sports leader programme gives students a chance to get involved in local sporting events like this and to develop essential life skills such as communication and empathy.
This term, they have also helped to run a multi-sports festival for visiting primary schools at Ashby School and will be refereeing a dodgeball tournament. After one year of being a sports leader, students earn a Level 2 qualification.
PE teacher Laura Wright said: "The sports leader initiative is an excellent programme that we run at Ashby School and through which we are proud to support local sporting events. Students learn essential life skills and have a really fun time in the process!"
Anyone interested in getting involved can contact Miss Wright.
