Extra-Curricular

Education at Ashby School does not stop at 3.10pm. Students can take advantage of a busy programme of educational, sporting and creative activities after school, from trampolining to Show Club (for budding stage performers). A full list of activities can be found here.

Extra-curricular activities give students the chance to take up new interests and take part in organised activities, for little or no charge. We run Lunchtime and after-school sessions, which  are a great opportunity for students to build confidence, develop new skills and meet new people. Some extra curricular events take place at weekends or during school holidays. There is a range of activities to support students’ learning including homework club, catch-up sessions for NEA work and revision activities. Students are also encouraged to take part in trips and visits throughout the year.

We run day and residential trips throughout the year, including Arts Theatre trips, Geography field trips, Space Centre visits, Christmas Market and Ski trips, Alton Towers, Ninja Warrier, Beaumanor, Osmington Bay and lots more.

Allocation of Places for Oversubscribed Educational Visits

In circumstances where demand for a school visit exceeds the number of available places, the school will apply the following criteria to determine allocations. These criteria are intended to ensure fairness, transparency, and equitable access for all students.

1. Looked After Children
   Priority will be given to students who are identified as looked after children.
2. Pupil Premium Eligibility
   Students who are eligible for pupil premium funding will receive priority consideration.
3. Prior Access to Opportunities
   Consideration will be given to whether the student has previously been unable to participate in a school trip due to oversubscription.
4. Year Group
   Students in their final year at Ashby School will be given priority.
5. Previous attendance
   For repeat visits, students who have attended the same trip in a previous year will not receive priority.
6. Extenuating Circumstances
   Any exceptional or extenuating circumstances brought to the school’s attention will be considered as part of the decision-making process.
7. Behaviour
   Serious breaches of our behaviour expectations will be reviewed to ensure students meet the standards required to represent the school.

The final decision on the allocation of places rests with the school.
