SEND at Ashby School

All teachers are teachers of students with Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND Code of Practice 2014).

Supporting Students with SEND

Ashby School is committed to providing a high-quality educational experience for young people, fostering respectful, responsible and resilient individuals prepared for an evolving world. Our dedicated staff work hard to support the learning and development of all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Quality First Teaching

Our teaching is built on the foundation of Quality First Teaching, meaning lessons are carefully planned to promote engagement, participation and remove barriers to learning, ensuring all students have the opportunity to show success in their learning.

Additional Support

Some students may require extra support to enhance access to their education. This could include:

• Support from teaching assistants
• Physical support or learning aids
• Targeted interventions
• Adjustments to the learning environment

Working Together

Students with SEND are supported through a collaborative approach involving the school SENDCo, Pastoral Team, and Wellbeing Team. To ensure personalised and effective support is in place, we work closely with:

• Students
• Families and carers
• Teaching and support staff
• External professionals and agencies (if/when appropriate)
