CREW

At Ashby School, we are proud to offer an innovative CREW programme, which stands for Coaching, Reflection, Enrichment, and Wellbeing. This holistic initiative is designed to support the growth and development of our students by building positive relationships and to cultivate good learning habits.

Relationships with our students is at the heart of everything we do. CREW offers the structure to develop this relationship and develop our students socially, emotionally and academically through carefully planned sessions each morning.

What underpins our CREW programme is our drive to develop student agency where we empower our students to take an active role in their education, making choices, and taking responsibility for their learning journey to ensure they are equipped with the tools to navigate the complexities of modern life with confidence and empathy. Research has linked agency to greater levels of motivation, confidence, wellbeing, self-regulation and growth mindset. Students with agency thrive both academically and emotionally.

Coaching: Through tailored coaching sessions, students receive guidance to accept responsibility to equip themselves with the knowledgeskills and values they will need to thrive in the 21st century.

Reflection: Reflection activities encourage them to thoughtfully evaluate their learning journey, fostering a continuous improvement mindset.

Enrichment: Enrichment opportunities broaden horizons beyond the standard curriculum, igniting passions and help to explore new interests.

Wellbeing: Finally, our commitment to wellbeing ensures that students develop resilience, balance, and a positive outlook, essential for thriving in and out of the classroom.

The role of the CREW Leader

CREW Leaders guide and support our students as they progress through Ashby School. They are the primary contact point between parents and the school and are the first port of call each day for their CREW members thorughout their time at Ashby School. CREW is a space where students feel safe and where they are able to reflect honestly and show their strengths and vulnerabilities to devleop as a learner but to also be coached by their CREW Leader through that journey.

GROW

GROW goals form part of our E2L activities and give students opportunities to organise themselves as well as set themselves realistic targets to achieve over time. There are a wide range of GROW goal areas that we are working on across school. In CREW the goals are based all around ‘Behaviour for Learning’ for example, asking students to focus on their contributions in class, or the quality of their work. This allows students to become self-motivated learner who are self-aware about how their actions may affect their outcomes.

A GROW goal model is centred around students understanding why they haven’t been able to achieve their goal and what is holding them back and allow them to work through the problem to reach their intended outcome. The model also allows the goals to specially tailored to each students by allowing them to devise their own route to the end point, giving students agency over their pathways and achievements. The model is simple to follow:

In CREW, GROW goals are set once a half-term, with regular revisits and check-ups to ensure they are still working towards their objectives.
